Yep, I’m back – hopefully consistently, but we’ll see. The greats always come out of retirement multiple times right? It worked for Rocky.
These days I am self-coaching; having planned my own training quite successfully for the Lake Macquarie half marathon in August I decided to continue on that track as I try to stay fit and uninjured over summer before running a marathon in winter (July for those north of the equator). On my current schedule Tuesday is the ‘mid week’ long run, falling earlier in the week than the norm due to some scheduling gymnastics. Anyway, the last couple of weeks I have run 20km early on a Tuesday morning and today was no different.
20km in 1hr 33 (avg 4:39/km), for the most part just cruising around the lake. My training at the moment is in service of building my aerobic base and I am definitely starting to feel aerobically fit. I really like doing quite a lot of aerobic running so it suits me just fine. Same goes for running early in the morning – today I started my Garmin watch for the run at 4:55am.
A new addition today was an easy 6km double in the afternoon. I got pretty hot and sweaty in the afternoon sun despite jogging it out nice and easy; took me some time to find my stride and loosen up but I’ll need to get used to these doubles. As my mileage (hopefully) increases, I’ll be doing them 3 or 4 times per week.
